On Perfection and Living Perfectly

It seems that Perfection depends upon just a few things:

  1. A Goal to Achieve
  2. Preparation

A Goal To Achieve

As they say, “If you don’t know where you are going, any road will take you there”,  without a goal, there is nothing to achieve. So, there is no question about the quality of good, bad or average in achievement. Only when you have a goal in mind, then you can identify and devise a plan to achieve that goal perfectly.

Consider the organization of clothes in your closet. What is the perfect of way doing it?

You might say that the best way to fold and keep your clothes organized is the Marie Kondo’s approach of Tidying up and you could be right about it. But is it always the perfect approach?

Imagine that your goal was to make yourself or your wife take the longest time to search for a shirt or underwear. Then wouldn’t the perfect way to achieve this goal be creating a mess?

Let’s take a look at another example where someone is working in an office. Now, in his opinion, what is the best way that he could be a perfect employee? If his goals were to finish his job on time only, then he can focus on those goals only and head out perfectly. But if he had more goals like developing his communication skills, technical skills, knowledge and so on, he would have to devise a different set of plans for those goals to achieve his idea of being a perfect employee.

So, perfection is directly related with the goal in mind.

Things that look perfect in one dimension can easily become imperfect in other dimensions of mind.

Preparation For Perfection

Now after you have identified your goal, the next step is to prepare yourself for the goal. A perfect execution largely depends upon intensive preparation. If you are well prepared, then you have higher chances of achieving your goals.

You can’t say that your goal is to score above 320 in GRE and at the same time you spend less than one hour preparing for it. Just because you have a goal doesn’t insure you of perfection. That would be liking having a super-natural mind power and a super-lazy mind at the same time!

So one has to prepare for the perfect execution of the goals. One has to get the details of the requirements for the task in hand, picture different possible scenarios, choose the best available people and tools, plan ideas accordingly and practice, practice and practice!

A question for the reader: Can there be more than one perfect way to achieve the same goal?

So are you living perfectly?

As we have already talked about it, this can only be answered once you know your goals in life. However, there is definitely one tip for you to get prepared for a perfect life.

Interestingly, the most important tools that each of us have in order to live a perfect life are:

  1. The Body
  2. The Mind

The body and the mind are the basis of our life; there can be no life without the two. The quality of anything that we do, depends upon the state of these two tools. If our bodies are weak and unhealthy, we will be deprived of many opportunities in life. Similarly, if our minds are weak and ignorant, we will be facing difficult situations frequently because of our weak decisions in life.

So, knowing these two are the pillars of perfection in life, one should always focus on developing and maintaining these two tools in a proper way.

  1. I don’t think there is anything that is perfect. Even God himself is criticized, so, in the eyes of the critic, “God is not perfect.” Then, as mere mortals, we simply cannot compare. But everything is relative, so in a person’s mind they could be doing things perfectly.

    1. Thank you for your thoughts Prashantaji. Perfection is definitely relative. There is always room for growth and improvement. Always space to expand. But at the same time, there is also a mark that we can set which if we attain, we can call it a perfect shot, in a relative manner.
